Bishop I. V. and Lady Bridget Hilliard Respond to Newly Released Book
Houston, TX - July 12, 2010 - Recently, it was brought to the public's attention that Kermeshea Evans authored and published a book which seeks to defame the character of Bishop I. V. and Lady Bridget Hilliard as parents and ministers of the Gospel. While reported as a firsthand account, it appears to be more of a work of fiction which attempts to paint them in a most unfavorable light. This is a regrettable situation. From what has been heard, the book is a gross misrepresentation of the documented facts that led to her dismissal from the ministry and disassociation from the family. Over a decade ago, a painful series of deceptive events took place in the ministry, which affected the ministry and the family. At the time, they chose to deal with the matter privately and in accordance with the Scripture. Mrs. Evans was the person responsible for these unfortunate events, and at that time, made a full confession regarding the matter. Deliberate, prayerful and decisive actions were necessary to maintain the integrity that the Hilliards have spent their lives building. Unfortunately, but necessarily, forgiveness, compassionate and tough love choices were made. Repeated attempts at restoration and reconciliation were unsuccessful. Some ten years later, in what can only be discerned as a sad attempt to acquire monetary gain, Mrs. Evans has published gross misrepresentations regarding facts previously acknowledged in a written confession. In fact, many of the portrayals in the book are not true, the events simply didn't happen.
For many years, the Hilliards hoped some level of reconciliation would be possible with their estranged daughter. To date, this has not happened.
"Many families come under attack and our family is not immune," said Bishop I.V. Hilliard. He further stated that, "Instead of seeking to restore and reconcile with the family, this book seeks to paint personal and professional situations in a negative light. It is sad that under the cloak of repentance, this attack on our longstanding, proven character and integrity would take place. Though disappointed in her, our love for her has not changed." Lady Bridget Hilliard added, "When personal, family matters are made public and misrepresented, one must make a decision on how to respond. We have chosen to remain prayerful and continue to stand in faith for complete restoration. Our abiding confidence is that truth will always prevail."
As with all personal family matters, there are many sides that could be told. However, the Hilliards have chosen not to get into a rebuttal battle. They have chosen only to continue to carry out the ministry assignments they have been given as they stand in faith. They continue to believe that those who know them and their proven commitment to righteousness and integrity need no explanation of their decision to make tough love choices. For those who don't know them, but could be negatively influenced by the misrepresentation of the facts, they trust the principle of integrity preserving them and truth prevailing will keep them, even if false judgments are made. For those who despise success for God's people and seek to find fault in whatever they do, nothing said about the situation will matter, even though they speak the truth and all matters were compassionately, morally, legally and scripturally handled.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 5:11-12
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
The Hilliards respectfully request that you continue to allow them privacy regarding this unfortunate matter.
This is the official response and no interviews will be granted.
